On Thursday 22nd August the Rotary Club of South Queensferry welcomed Lesley Fowler, youngest daughter of Club member Ian Fowler, as the night's speaker. Currently Deputy National President of Junior Chamber International Scotland (JCI), Lesley explained that the organisation has over 200,000 members in over 110 countries and is a United Nations Global Partner with a vision to be the leading global organisation of young, active citizens. The focus is to empower young people to create positive changes. In July, accompanied by Deputy National Presidents from the UK and Ireland , Lesley attended the JCT Training Academy for future National Presidents at Fukayama in Japan which hosted 70 International delegates and 130 Japanese members. As well as training sessions, her stay included a visit to a local primary school for a cultural exchange followed by four days as a house guest with a local family including two young daughters and an elderly grandmother. Language difficulties were overcome by a translator app on her mobile phone and her presentation to the Rotary club was illustrated my many interesting photographs of places of cultural interest. Lesley very much enjoyed her visit to Japan and is looking forward to the challenges of being President in 2014. He next JCI trip will take her to Rio De Janiero for the JCI National Conference. Lesley was introduced by Colin Riddell and thanked by Grainger Falconer.
