On Thursday 13th June, President Liz Mackenzie welcomed guest of honour Lynne Dickson to the Rotary Club of South Queensferry. The occasion was the presentation of the Rotary Community Award
In his introduction, Rotarian Gerald Smith outlined Lynne's career. On leaving Queensferry High School, she studied nursing and worked in posts in emergency, oncology and also the burns unit at St John's Hospital. Voluntary work as a first aider with St Andrew's Ambulance led Lynne to First Responding, a scheme in which local people are trained in defibrillation and resuscitation techniques and frequently reach casualties before ambulance and paramedics. Queensferry First Responders was the result. For one year, Lynne operated alone, then the 'Have a Heart' campaign funded the training of more responders. The organisation now works in partnership with Quensferry Fire Station.
In presenting the award, President Liz praised Lynne's commitment to the people of Queensferry and her untiring work to save lives. In response, Lynne thanked the Rotary Club for their support in funding high visibility clothing and other equipment for First Responders.
