On Thursday 18th July, we welcomed honorary member Jim Boyd as the evening's speaker. Jim, from Glenrothes Rotary Club, is a longstanding friend of our club, in addition to being a world traveller of considerable experience.
His talk covered a recent trip to China and Tibet. The route included Beijing, Xinging, X'ian (famous for the terracotta warriors) and Lhasa , the capital of Tibet. In a well illustrated presentation, Jim drew many contrasts between the friendly Buddhist Tibetans and the numerous Han Chinese who have settled in the country since the annexation. His visit included the highest railway station in the world and the palace of the Dalai Lama, now in exile in India. Jim was accompanied to Queensferry by fellow Glenrothes Rotarian Ron Young and his talk prompted many questions from the floor.
