Bogota Appeal in Pictures

Showing the background to the Bogota appeal

In 2013 the Rotary Club of Alloway (RCoA) became aware of the urgent need for help for Hogar Integral, an organisation which feeds, educates and cares for about 1500 children who would otherwise be on the streets in one of the poorest suburbs of Bogotá in Colombia. They were in desperate need of a new lorry and a new kitchen, so that food could be transported, stored and prepared to a safe standard. This was expected to cost in the region of £23,000 of which RCoA had a target of £2500.

The RCoA organised a Songs of Praise, a concert and a recital and as a result exceeded their target. The rest of the fund was met by contributions from TTF & DDF.

In the slideshow you can see some of the appalling conditions that these people have to live in. The children and volunteers of Hogar Integral were delighted to have Peter Ball, then President Elect of RCoA, and his family, come and visit them in 2014 as guests of the Rotary Club of Bogotá.

Not only do they now have their new lorry and coldroom, but the extra money raised by the Alloway Club facilitated the purchase of a plot of land desperately needed for a new classroom.
