Speaker David Critchlow, Warrant Officer at Duns Air Training Corps, gave club members an interesting and informative account of ATC activities and received a £100 cheque from the Club in recognition of their invaluable help at Rotary-organised events.
Club Member David McLuckie introduced his speaker for the evening, Warrant Officer David Critchlow of the ATC, whose members frequently assist Duns Rotary Club at public events, most recently the popular and successful Jubille Party held in Market Square in June.

There's an organisation in Duns that gives teenagers, both boys and girls, the chance to get
involved in all sorts of brilliant activities like gliding, flying, adventure training, the Duke of
Edinburgh Award Scheme and much else. At last week's meeting of Duns Rotary Club,
Warrant Officer David Critchlow, ATC, told the Rotarians all about it. David's the officer in
charge of 1007 (Duns) Squadron of the Air Training Corps.
The ATC is partly funded by the RAF, partly by a modest monthly subscription by the cadets
and partly by voluntary fundraising. The basic aim is to encourage a practical interest in
aviation and the RAF, to provide training which will be useful both in the services and in civilian
life, and to foster the spirit of adventure, developing the qualities of leadership and good
citizenship. Anyone who attended the recent Duns Diamond Jubilee Street Party can vouch for
the cadets' good citizenship - they helped man the road closure barriers all evening.
When they're not out helping in the community or on a visit to an RAF base, the cadets meet
on Monday evenings in the Volunteer Hall. There they might have a training session in some
aspect of aviation, they might do a bit of drill, or they might be building and operating radio
controlled models. It all sounds excellent fun, as well as being interesting and educational. The
ATC is always in need of more adult volunteers to help. In fact, it's the shortage of volunteers
that limits the number of cadets they can take on. There's no shortage of youngsters who want
to get involved in such an exciting organisation.
At the end of Warrant Officer Critchlow's talk, the President of Duns Rotary, Bob Tait, presented
him with a cheque for
