Hugh Pihlens awarded The Paul Harris Fellowship.
The Rotary Club of Hungerford has awarded Hugh Pihlens their highest honour, The Paul Harris Fellowship. Paul Harris was founder of one of the largest Charitable organisations in the world, Rotary International and the award is giving for outstanding contribution to the Rotary Organisation, whose motto is "Service Above Self", as well as to the local community.
Hugh was a highly respected Doctor at the Hungerford Practice for over 30 years where he, along with his team, not only look after the medical needs of the local people but also developed the computer software which helps with the smooth running of many Medical Practices within the U.K.
On his retirement Hugh had more time to spend pursuing his great interest in the History of Hungerford and district. With the many old customs and traditions in Hungerford, he had a wealth of material to work with and he has published 3 illustrated books on the subject. Over the last few years he has combined his interests in computers and Hungerford to produce a fascinating Museum Web Site with a multitude of facts and pictures. Hugh said that he was both delighted and proud to have received this award and he is looking forward to many more years as a member of Hungerford Rotary Club.
