What is Rotary all about?

Rotary is a well-established humanitarian aid organisation, born in the USA, it is now an international charity supporting initiatives around the globe.

Rotary has recognised that some of its traditions and practices aren't practical or attractive to younger professionals. Juggling multiple priorities and charitable commitments is challenging even for the most committed of volunteer.

The Satellite Rotary Club of Truro is a  new way of working. We still believe in the work and values of Rotary such as friendship, international understanding, goodwill and peace, service above self and humanitarian aid, we just go about our day to day in a different way, allowing younger people with busy lives the chance make a change and feel the reward of contribution without the guilt and stress of overburden or fatigue.

How did we get here?

It was February 2014 when a small group of people met to discuss the opportunity and feasibility of establishing a new kind of Rotary Club in the Truro area. None of us really knew how we could make it work or what outcome would be!

To many of us in the room, pre 2011 Rotary would have seemed like an old man's secret handshake get together, we may have seen the logo in a few places, and heard about duck races or raffles but never really understood or taking an interest in what the international organisation did.

Through a number of initiatives including the fabulous, life changing, Group Study Exchanges to both India and Romania we learned not all our preconceived ideas were correct. Rotary exists to support humanitarian causes worldwide and those of us at the initial meeting had the opportunity of seeing first-hand the great work Rotary.

It became apparent at that meeting that most of us involved were enthusiastic and committed to the humanitarian causes Rotary supports, however none of us felt the current Rotary offering met our needs, so we decided to come up with a concept of our own and Rotary Evolution was born.

Same Rotary values and beliefs, different delivery and format.
