welcomes you to the Sherborne Rotary Club website.We hope that you will find the following pages interesting and informative. Please contact us should you need any further information or wish to attend one of our events. Our normal meeting place is The Sherborne Hotel, which is situated at the junction of the A352 and the A30 roads. We normally meet Tuesdays 6.00 for 6-30pm.
Our primary purpose is to serve the community often by raising funds for charity. The Presidents office lasts one year. 

75th Charter Celebration

The Rotary Club of Sherborne recently celebrated the 75th Anniversary of their Charter.   At the celebration dinner for 100 held at Leweston, the Sherborne members were joined by President RIBI Ray Burman, District 1200 Governor Eric Sambell, the President and 12 members from Sherborne’s Link Club of Dinan, France  and representatives from the Rotary Clubs of Poole, Sturminster Newton, Sherborne Castles, Bridport and Yeo Vale. Also present were wives, friends and past members along with The Mayor of Sherborne, the President of the Lions Club of Sherborne and the M P for West Dorset Rt Hon Oliver Letwin.

The evening started in great style with grace in the form of a poem composed and read by the Vicar of Sherborne Canon Eric Woods which immediately received applause. The loyal toast was proposed by Rotarian Don Mildenhall, a Sherborne Rotarian for 58 years.

Speeches were made by the President of Sherborne Rotary Club Paul Austin, President RIBI Ray Burman, District Governor Eric Sambell and Oliver Letwin M P.

A prize draw took place for three donated high quality prizes and £605 was raised for End Polio Now. Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Rotarian Michael Rawlinson.

Fund Raising

Historical Vehicle Rally

This annual event is a brilliant way for raising funds for charity and is held in

 the magnificent setting of The Courts at Sherborne School, Dorset

Youth Makes Music 2013

The Sherborne Rotary club hosted a fund raising event at The Digby Hall  in March.  The proceeds go to charity.

Fellowship Activities

 

We keep a variety in our fellowship activities and undertake some social meetings both at home and away from our normal venue.

COMMUNITY WORK.

2013 Youth Makes music

This is a regular event when local schools are all asked to present music to the public at the Digby hall. profits go to local charities. The last event was on March 13th  and the programme included Eight local schools.

2012 WORLD UNDERSTANDING

On Tuesday, 28th February 2012 the Rotary Club of Sherborne entertained a number of young men and women from different countries to a dinner at the Sherborne Hotel, the purpose being to welcome them to England and introduce them to Rotary,an event that has been taking place now for many years.  Traditionally they comprised a combination of Language Assistantes in the Sherborne Schools coming from France, Belgium, Spain, Rumania and Ecuador, together with Gap Students from Australia and New Zealand. 2013 Youth Speaks

Rotary's 'Youth Speaks' is a National competition. Sherborne Rotary Club always organises the local senior round and the Castles club organises the junior event. A senior event was held on the 26th January at the Leweston School Sherborne, and  contested by 5 school teams.  Teams of three entered from Sherborne Girls Sherborne Boys , Leweston and two teams for the Gryphon schools.

The best speach    was awarded to the  Gryphon School. Presentation of shield By President Berri is shown below.

 

 

Young Inventor Talk

A most interesting lecture was given by Gryphon School student Christie Smith on his harware invention.  He was delighted to be given the opportunity to make public his ideas.  He is tipped to go far in his engineering/technology career. He is standing next to his Head of Chemistry master and Rotarian John Beresford  and past President Paul.

 Aubry Allan Award

It is usual for the Rotary Club of Sherborne to award book prizes awarded for outstanding services to the communityy, here awards are being presented to Year 13 students Lewis Bainbridge and Heather Yeardon , President Berri right and headmaster Steve Hillier left.
