Royal Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall was once again filled with the fun and excitement of our annual Rotary Junior Schools Quiz.
This year we had seven local primary school teams competing to be quiz champion, the largest number of teams that have entered since before Covid times.
We were very pleased to welcome teams from Brinkworth Earl Danby's, Broad Hinton, Longleaze, Lyneham, Noremarsh, St Bartholomew's and St Mary’s Purton.
Each team of three were asked 10 rounds of 10 questions on various subjects covering science, health, music, general knowledge, pictures and more. Teams were given a Joker card to play on a pre-selected round of their choice, which doubled their score on that round. With 1 scoring point per question, the maximum score available to each team including the use of their Joker was 110.
All of the teams were fully engaged in the questions delivered by Quizmaster Allison. After the break the teams were buzzing with excitement. During the announcement of answers for the Music round, a few individuals from both the audience and teams decided to sing to some of the tunes, thought to be a 'first' in the history of the competition. The singing was fantastic and wonderful to hear resulting in applause and appreciation from everyone.
After the scorers had totalled up all the points, the top three teams were announced by Rotary Club President Robert Collis.
Noremarsh Junior School were this year's winners, retaining the trophy they won in 2025. Broad Hinton CofE Primary School were second followed by Longleaze Primary School in third place.
Our Club would like to thank all teams for entering the event. You all did very well, congratulations.
Thanks also to parents, school staff and Rotary members for supporting this fun event and making it happen. It wouldn't be possible without your participation.
The date for the quiz next year is Tuesday 23rd March 2027 at The Memorial Hall, starting 18:30.
We look forward to welcoming all schools again.
Please mark your calendars!
