The RotaKids and children at Buttsbury Primary School have also been busy in the lead up to Christmas - - very busy.

First of all, Children in Need this year was at the same time as the school’s Christmas bazaar, so they kept it low key, even so the children raised money by wearing spots or yellow, and they also sold Pudsey ears. “We raised £744 in total!” said Head Teacher Ann Robinson.

In addition, before half-term, they had “Well-being” week, and wore yellow on the last day to raise awareness of Young Minds.  This also raised money - £361 in total.

Buttsbury has been at the forefront of Dementia Friendly efforts in schools since before 2021 when it won a Dementia Friendly Schools Award.  In mid-November, they were visited by Maureen Lee to kick off their Dementia Friends work this year.

Then shortly afterwards, they had a visit from Thomas Williams, a Year 13 schoolboy at Mayflower School - as part of Democracy Week - Thomas came to talk to the RotaKids about democracy - he’s a member of the Billericay Youth Town Council.

In the first week of December, the Year 5/6 choir supported fundraising events at Greenwoods and Stock Brook Manor and the Year 3/4 choir did the same at Barleylands Festive Fayre, on Sunday November 30.
The Year 5/6 choir also took part in the annual Christmas Market, singing in St. Mary Magdalen church, ably conducted by Head teacher Ann Robinson, to a standing room only audience.
They also sang at Christ Church’s 60th birthday the week after.

So much going on!!!
