Last Friday, members of the Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club traveled to The Chiltern Hotel for a breakfast meeting with the Luton Someries Rotary Club. Despite the early 7:15 am start, the meeting was exceptionally well attended with 22 members present, 5 guests, and 8 apologies.

A Warm Welcome at The Chiltern Hotel

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to President Martin Blower for his warm welcome and gracious hospitality. It was a pleasure to meet with the Luton Someries team, and we also express our gratitude to President-elect Clare Tozer-Roodt for her kind reception. The hospitality at The Chiltern Hotel provided a perfect setting for a morning of fellowship and collaboration.

Guest Speaker: Jo Gower on Peace

The highlight of the morning was a presentation by guest speaker Jo Gower. Jo spoke passionately about Peace, which remains one of Rotary’s seven core areas of focus. Her insights served as a timely reminder of the critical role Rotary plays in conflict resolution and the promotion of global harmony.

Community Partnerships: Luton Irish Forum

The meeting also featured a representative from the Luton Irish Forum, Nuala Ely Office Manager and Social Activities Lead. Nuala attended to promote the upcoming St. Patrick’s Festival, which takes place this year on Saturday, 14th March. The Forum is currently seeking volunteers to support the day’s celebrations. We encourage anyone interested in supporting this spectacular local event to get in touch with the Forum directly.

District News and Events

We were also pleased to welcome Assistant Governor Claudio Duran. Claudio took the opportunity to promote the Rotary District Showcase event, scheduled for Saturday, 18th April. This event will be a significant opportunity for clubs across the district to highlight their projects and share best practices.

Our thanks once again to the members of Luton Someries for inviting us to join them. Inter-club visits like these are a vital part of the Rotary experience, allowing us to strengthen our ties and find new ways to serve our communities together.
