The speakers on 9th February were Nicky Woods and Rory Restall from Carer Support South Lakes, an organisation which assists unpaid carers throughout their caring journey by providing and developing appropriate support services. They are an independent charity based on Beezon Road in Kendal, covering the whole of South Lakeland. Their focus is on the wellbeing of carers of any age and offer a monthly sitting service for those carers who need a break or to attend appointments etc. Rory heads up the Young Carers team of volunteers and helps child carers to have a chance to “be” children and to achieve their own potential. It is estimated that it would cost £280M per annum in Cumbria for professionals to do the work of our unpaid carers.
