A Remarkable Success: The WGC Rotary Book Swap at Campus West

During our most recent monthly coffee morning at Campus West, the members of Welwyn Garden City Rotary were met with a delightful surprise. What began as a quiet community project has transformed into a local sensation, as our Book Swap initiative is proving to be incredibly popular with the residents of Welwyn Garden City.

The shelves were a hive of activity, with books being borrowed and replaced by the community at an extraordinary rate. Seeing the rapid turnover of titles, our members quickly turned their attention from coffee to the task at hand. We spent a spirited thirty minutes of our meeting processing the newly donated arrivals, ensuring that each book was fitted with a Rotary insert.

It was a whirlwind of pages and labels as we worked through the stacks to ensure every story on the shelf carries the spirit of our club. The excitement of seeing the community engage so passionately with reading was palpable, and it served as a vivid reminder of why these initiatives are so vital.

Supporting the Book Swap is a key part of our local mission, particularly as Basic Education and Literacy is one of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus. By facilitating the free exchange of literature, we are actively promoting literacy and a love for reading within our town.

We encourage everyone to visit the shelves at Campus West. Whether you are searching for a gripping new mystery or have a well-loved story to pass on to the next reader, the Book Swap is open to all. We look forward to seeing this initiative continue to flourish as we celebrate our centenary year.
