wgc rotary club goes to district showcase

This past weekend, the Rotary Club of Welwyn Garden City, alongside over thirty Rotarians from across the district, participated in the vibrant District Showcase event held in Ware. This gathering was a true "Rotary Fest," designed to highlight the breadth of service opportunities available within Rotary.

The day began on a high note, with attendees treated to delicious waffles shaped like the Rotary Wheel, with the option of maple syrup, and pre-booked lunches featuring a variety of pizzas.

Deep Dive into Rotary Programmes

The showcase provided a crucial opportunity for all members, particularly those new to Rotary, to explore the full spectrum of our work.

  • The Youth Stall was a significant attraction, detailing programmes such as RYLA, Young Chef, Youth Speaks, Young Artist, Young Musician, Young Photographer, and Young Citizen. This event was vital, as many members (like our Secretary) noted they were only aware of the programmes their local club currently participates in.
  • The global fight against disease was represented by the End Polio Now booth, which also led the round of inspiring speeches.
  • Essential service partners were present, including ShelterBox, which demonstrated their vital work providing emergency shelter and essential supplies to families displaced by disaster, and the local initiatives Wrap Up and Dictionary for Life.

Connecting and Learning

Beyond service projects, the event focused on connection and modern engagement:

  • A Tech Support booth offered guidance on digital tools, showcasing the district website and essential Rotary apps like My Rotary and Club Locator.
  • The Rotary Fellowships booth provided information on groups dedicated to members' shared hobbies and special interests, ranging from motoring to fine arts.

The Rotary Club of Welwyn Garden City was well-represented by our Secretary, Amanda Joseph, and our Joint President, Andrew Forrow.

This successful showcase was the first of six planned throughout 2026, encouraging all Rotarians to discover the impact and fellowship that exists across our district.
