Rotarians across the district stepped up to support Ukrainian refugee families displaced by the war in their homeland. Two Rotary Foundation Disaster Relief Grants were secured and PDG Ray Bevan allocated unspent money from his Covid impacted year to fund clubs’ support for their communities. This amounted to a sum in excess of £60,000 in addition to what our members were doing on an individual basis.
There is a large concentration of refugees in Cardiff and the hub has acted as a focal point for mothers and their children to meet as a Ukrainian community and retain their national identity.
One successful Rotary funded project has been Film4Teens which has brought children across the district together and under the guidance of professionals from Wales and Ukraine to develop their documentary and filmmaking talent to create incredible stories out of adversity.
