Alistair Richards and Vickie Butcher
On 29 September Alistair Richards (CEO) and Vickie Butcher from North West Cancer Research came to our meeting. In this region, which includes much of North Wales, there are 25% more cancer diagnoses than elsewhere in the UK, and perhaps because Cumbria had an older population, we have another 25% higher chance to catch cancer than the rest of the North West. NWCR distributes funds to local centres with projects to tackle cancer.
There has been a significant progress made in researching the two most prevalent cancers - breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Last year NWCR distributed nearly two million pounds right across the region. The organisation is rightly proud of the impact it is helping to make.
