Congratulations to Knaresborough Rotarian Peter Thompson MBE, Founder of PhysioNet who has been made an Honorary Officer of the Order of Fiji in recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Fiji. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. conferred the honor on Mr. Thompson during the investiture ceremony held at the Sigavou Room, State House, Fiji. “Mr Thompson and PhysioNet’s contributions in the last 15 years have enhanced the quality of life for over one hundred thousand Fijians, restoring dignity, confidence, and inclusion to individuals and families living with disabilities,” said the Prime Minister. "Mr. Thompson, who first arrived in Fiji in 1959 as an Agriculture Specialist, served in the Department of Agriculture for 15 years before retiring as Assistant Director. His long-standing connection to Fiji and his humanitarian work through PhysioNet highlight his enduring bond with our nation". I am told he was not aware this was going to happen and had to borrow a suit! We still await a photo of him receiving his MBE from the Princess Royal.
