We sponsor three children through senior school in Embu County, Kenya

Student Sponsorship

In Kenya, only primary schools are free, and many poor but bright children can’t afford further education so may drop out of education altogether.  An ongoing sponsorship programme between Embu and Billericay raises funds to ensure bright children can go on to further education in Senior Schools and University, but there are never enough funds to meet the demand.

Two years ago the Rotary Club of Billericay began sponsoring three students to attend senior school in Embu. We were supported by a matching District Grant for the first two years of their school attendance, but the course is four years. So this year we are seeking another District Grant to match our club donation of £1,000 to fund the final two years of their education, and have also applied for matched funding of another £1,250 to sponsor one student at University.
Good Marks

Margaret visited St Francis Ciamanda Mixed Day Senior School where there are nine sponsored students, and she met other sponsored children at Moi High School, Mbiruri, St Anne’s High School, Kiriari, and Hon Kiragu Stephen High School, Kirinyaga. These children are working hard and getting good marks because they appreciate the opportunity they have been given.
