District Governor Visit

John Edwards

We welcomed District Governor John Edwards as our guest on 4th August. John had done his homework on Kendal’s past and claimed a tenuous connection, having supplied a vintage bus involved in recreating Wainwright’s first ascent of Orrest Head.

As a new DG, John told us of the inspirational (compulsory) visit to Orlando ……. one of the other delegates mistook the “local” photograph of Lytham Hall on his Rotary business card for his actual home.

John is focusing on increasing membership during his time in office: District 1190 needs to recruit 4 new members per club to reach a total membership of 1190 and stressed that the District is there to support clubs locally. However, he prefers to think of “pathways” rather than “targets”, giving purpose and direction, and ideally creating two new clubs in central Cumbria.
He sees corporate responsibility in companies as being a useful recruitment tool, especially in small companies wanting to put something into their local communities and achieving the “3 Fs” – Fellowship, Fun and Fulfilment.
