INTERACT RALLY 2026

Young people from across Rotary clubs in Southern Wales came together in Gilwern near Abergavenny, for a dynamic and inspiring three-day Interact Rally, focused on developing skills, building connections, and sharing experiences.

NATIONAL YOUNG CITIZEN'S AWARD

Congratulations to Brynmawr Interact Club who won the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Young Citizens Award.  The club has decided to donate their £250 prize money to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and 4Louis – two charities that have a personal meaning for them. The club found it difficult to choose between the two charities, so they had added a further £250 from their own fund-raising efforts

NATIONAL YOUNG CITIZEN'S PEACEBUILDER AWARD

Congratulations also to Croesceiliog Interact Club who won the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Young Citizens Peacebuider Award.  The club’s projects include supporting the Jackie School in Uganda through literacy and menstrual health. They also have a Book Stop for the local community and are building a Peace Garden at the school.

DISTRICT YOUTH COMPETITIONS

District Youth Competitions for Young Musician, Young Chef, Youth Speaks, Young Photographer, and Young Writer have all been held and attracted some very talented participants....

The District Young Musician competition was held at All Saints Church Porthcawl and won by Javier Gonzalez on the piano (sponsored by Pontypool Rotary) and vocalist Miley Goss (sponsored by Rhondda Rotary).

The District Young Chef competition was hosted by Abergavenny Rotary Club at King Henry VIII School. The winner was Alex Bourne of King Henry VIII School and the runner up was Ryder Frederick of Cowbridge Comprehensive.

The Youth Speaks competition was held at Queen Elizabeth High School, Carmarthen. Queen Elizabeth were winners of both the Senior competition and the Intermediate competition.

In the Young Photographer competition, the junior winner was Tomos with a photo entitled 'Love Birds' (shown). The Intermediate winner was Sofia with photo 'Dog in Flowers'. And the Senior winner was Hattie with photo 'Girl with Cows'. All very impressive! Tomos entry went on to be placed 2nd in the National competition.

For the Young Artist intermediate section, the winner was Esme who described her painting: "This picture links to nature because it represents a hedgehog who has found paint in nature and is rolling in it". Esme's entry was awarded 3rd place in the National competition.

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership) courses are underway once more at the Storey Arms Outdoor Centre in the Brecon Beacons organised and guided by Rob Fry and Hayley Ridge-Evans. These courses give students the skills to become good leaders and team players whilst enjoying an outward bound experience. Each student gets the opportunity to lead their team in a challenging experience such as caving, orienteering, gorge walking, etc. At the end of the course students get a certificate of qualification. ROTARY AT THE SENEDD

As a result of the Rotary partnership with Bipolar UK, Carol & Malcolm Hallewell and Maggie Hughes were invited to showcase the work of Rotary in Southern Wales at the Senedd at their recent "Mapping the Gap in Wales" event. More...
