06.05.2025 - Veterans Celebration Lunch
Arranged by Barb Warwick, RBL Epsom & Ewell Branch with the assistance of Maggie and Tony from Epsom Rotary an invitation was arrange for lunch at 12.30 at The Toby Carvery, Epsom with transport as required, whilst others made their own way there. The Worshipful May or Epsom, was also invited, along with Helen Mcguire, MP of Epsom & Ewell, and others to include Graham Jones, Veterans Champion.
A good number of veterans attended, some with guests to enjoy the delicious selection of carvery meats, carved to order, with a tempting selection of vegetables, and included in the meal a treat of an icecream sundae. A section of the restaurant was allocated to the group, with tables laced with flags and red napkins, and a couple of waitresses on hand to assist whenever needed and made us feel most welcome. The Mayor. of Epsom also addressed the group It was evident that everyone who attended expressed that they had a great time,
08.05.2025 - The Clocktower, Epsom Marketplace
Councillor Graham Jones Armed Forces Champion for Epsom & Ewell (accompanied by Royal British Legion Epsom & Ewell Branch and 135 Squadron) read the VE Day Proclamation, raised the official Flag and joined by members of the community in singing. Veterans were of course accordingly invited with seated provided for them.
08.05.2025 - VE Day celebrations also saw the beacon lighting at the Downs and the event was well attended by many members of the public and Veterans were of course invited where there was some seating provided for them, wheelchairs on hand if required, and amongst the celebrations was entertainment and food, and the event organised by BID Epsom and Go Epsom. Outside of Epsom Rotary remit, club members in their own capacity assisted Marshalling and experienced the atmosphere of the celebration.
