Hawick Rotary enjoyed their Christmas Party Night at Mansfield House Hotel on Thursday December 19th. The programme bagan with the presentation of a cheque for £275 to representatives of Burnfoot Buskers, a group which teaches fiddle playing to young people in the Burnfoot part of town. Isobel Burton and young fiddler Leah Rae played three tunes before Youth & Community convenor Tommy Mulvee handed over the cheque, which had been funded by the recent Flicks in the Sticks film night at Denholm.
After enjoying a traditional Christmas Dinner, the company were then entertained by fellow members. Tommy Mulvee played and sang three items – 'Come spend a while wi' me', 'Old Jock', and 'Merry Christmas Everybody', Jane Bannerman read humorous extracts from books by Gervase Phinn on Christmas tales from schools in Yorkshire, George Thorburn sang 'the Bonnie Lass of Fyvie' and 'Silent Night', and Ron Smith read 'A Politically Correct Christmas Poem. The company then competed in a Winter Quiz set by Mairhi Trickett. This was won by the pairing of Tommy Mulvee and Ron Smith with the highest score of 8 / 15!!
President Iain Smith gave the Vote of Thanks and wished the company well for Christmas and the New Year.
