 Today’s speaker was Robert Till, Chairman of The Caxton Players, which was formed in 1943 and  was  based in the former Grimsby Telegraph Offices. Hence the name Caxton (Players) from William Caxton (printer). They played in a variety of places until finally finding a permanent home  at 120 Cleethorpe Road. The building, a former Primitive Methodist Chapel was bought in 1981 and they converted the upstairs into a theatre with rehearsal rooms on the ground floor.

 

Robert said “they  have about 45 actors and put on 8 plays a year. Planning ahead is essential so they can obtain the necessary licence.” “What do we do?" said Robert “anything! from drama to comedy.We rehearse for about 12 weeks prior to going on stage”.

What do we do to help the community? “ At the start of a play run we devote 50 seats to a charity for them to sell  and provide some income for themselves
