The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 25th November was Godfrey Owen from YMCA Lakeside who gave a resume of the work of the camp and his thoughts about the proposed Dragon Boat event planned for July next year. Lakeside is hidden within 100 acres of private woodland on the shores of Lake Windermere. As a centre of excellence in outdoor learning, they have been there for more than 90 years and in that time, they have helped more than a million young people to build a better future. Today they are one of the largest outdoor education centres in Europe, delivering top quality outdoor learning from the best location you could ask for. They work with schools, colleges, youth groups and parents and carers booking day camps, whether they are local families, or staying in The Lake District. Children of eight years to 14 will get the most from our activities but will happily tailor their offer for younger children. Many of the activities can be adapted for groups with special needs and disabilities.
