Alloway Railway Tunnel ART Project

Bill McKinley and Shelagh McLauchlan gave Prestwick Rotary a wonderful talk on the repainting of the old Alloway Railway Tunnel. The tunnel was covered in soot and graffiti which took a week of jet washing to clean it. Painting and decorating apprentices from local colleges were employed to start transforming the tunnel.
Chris Rutterford is the Lead Artist who transformed the Collington Tunnel near Edinburgh. Nearly 2000 people from the local community were also involved in the tunnel redecoration. The tunnel was re-lined to prevent water ingress that would damage the new artwork.
The artwork in the tunnel show themes from around ayrshire including Robert Burns, local seafaring, local farming, local people and much more.
