Toasting Rabbie Burns in style.
The
extended meeting took the form of a Burn’s lunch. President Frank
Quinault welcomed members and guests before giving the ‘Address to the
Haggis’. The Principal’s Piper, Joelle Millar, piped in the haggis,
winner of the Madras Burns Club competition, Jan Tero, recited excerpts
from ‘Tam o’Shanter’, and President of the St Andrews Burns Club, Jim
McArthur, gave the ‘Immortal Memory’. Club members also took part -Rev.
Ian Hamilton recited the Selkirk Grace, Colin Brown gave the toast to
the lassies and Virginia Fowler gave the reply. Ann Baird sang a
selection of Burns’ songs accompanied by Ian Hamilton and then led the
communal singing of more songs, ending with Auld Lang Syne. Also on the
programme was the presentation of the Paul Harris Fellowship to Iain
McIver for long service to the Club.
