Rotary Club of Birstall Luddites
"Last Night at the Proms" Concert in aid of MS Society.
On Sat 28th Sept Birstall Luddites Rotary Club held a "Last Night at the Proms" Concert at
St Thomas Church Batley in aid of MS Society.
Featuring WOW - Wakefield Orchestral Wind with Musical Director Colin Crammer
supported by vocalist Claire Helm.
Rotarians, friends and visitors gathered at St. Thomas Church to enjoy a concert based on the
BBC Proms final concert in their 8 weeks of 90 concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in 2024.
The Wakefield Orchestral Wind Orchestra performed music supported by
Classical Singer Claire Helm.
The show was in 2 parts the first included a medley of American civil war songs and also the Planets Jupiter music by Gustav Holst..
The second half started with the theme from the Archers series and then was mainly the popular music that celebrates British tradition, music and patriotism. Sea songs by Henry Moore and Rule Britannia etc.
Flags were waved and the audience sang to finish with Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
What a brilliant evening.
The Tesco raffle raised £351, big thanks to Tesco, the overall proceeds raised £1050 for the MS Society.
Big thanks to President Margaret whose idea this was, accompanied by Rotarian Nigel.
Also Rotarian Jeremy who hosted the event and Carol, Edith, Kathryn for help with the Raffle andTea and Coffee.
