EPSOM DOWNS CANCER RESEARCH RACE FOR LIFE
A band of Epsom Rotary members and friends again this year organised by Bob Frisby volunteered as marshals at the Epsom Downs Race for Life event held today.
Everything was set up and welcoming today, the volunteers tent, maps and walkie talkies for those who would marshal around the course and tabards showing others as volunteers. There was a colourful huge inflatable for the finishing time, with stage presentation and music to entertain the participants, a place for those to leave for loved ones they were talking part for and other inflatables around the arena, and a Pink was very much the mood and fancy dress in abundance. Ice vans and food outlet were also available for spectators etc.
There was a warm up for participants, a massive thanks to all those taking part, led by flags to their starting points, for runners for the 5k and 3K and walkers. A prize was awarded to the team that raised the most and they were off. The atmosphere exciting and encouraging and the weather pleasant. Our role was to present medals to all those who took part in the race and assist with the water station and was pleased to received a vote of thanks in the announcement for our presence there today.
Wishing those well done on their amazing achievements and to see smiles on the faces of the many, estimated around 400 that took part made the event so very worthwhile.
