There is a wide variety of activities undertaken by Rotarians to meet the needs of their local communities and those overseas. This may be in partnership with other organisations, or simply responding to identified need. Find out about some of the more local ones below:
The Arctic One Foundation is an amazing small charity with big ideas based in nearby Chesham that aims to give opportunities to both able bodied and disabled people to enable them to “Get Involved” in Sport. It is a perfect example of how working together has nurtured the London 2012 Legacy project and raised the profile of Paralympian competition and increased opportunities for people of all abilities to improve their quality of life through sport – proving beyond measure that "its not about what you can't do, it's all about what you can do." Know Your Blood Pressure Day in association with the Stroke Association. Every year, an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. That's one person every five minutes. Most people affected are over 65, but anyone can have a stroke, including children and even babies. Each year in mid April, Rotary clubs carry out blood pressure checks on members of the public in town centres and other venues. Read more about it.....

Environmental sustainability: Caring for our environment and seeking sustainable solutions with 'greener' alternatives have become increasingly important as climate change can no longer be denied. This District unanimously endorsed the Resolution for Environmental Sustainability, initiated by Rodney Huggins and the Rotary club of Loddon Vale. Rotary clubs throughout Britain & Ireland work in partnership with BBC Children in Need. Collections at Heathrow Airport, led by Misbourne Matins and Marlow Thames, and Reading Train Station, run jointly by Rotary Clubs of Reading, have been particularly successful, raising thousands for disadvantaged youngsters. The Heathrow collection of 2018 raised an amazing £33K. See more ........
This year Rotary has raised over £138,000 for Children in Need to June 2019.
Literacy empowers people and is essential for community development. Nearly 800 million people worldwide over the age of 15 can neither read nor write. Whether it is getting involved in local initiatives such as The Dictionary4Life, where Rotarians provide schoolchildren with dictionaries or supporting overseas projects through The Literacy in a Box Trust, clubs in this District take literacy very seriously, both at home and abroad Read more

Life Education Centres use interactive mobile classrooms to teach positive health messages to primary school children to help them make smart choices as young people. Clubs throughout the District support LEC in the Thames Valley and London-Hillingdon in a number of ways Read more .......
Kids Out nationally involves some 750 Rotary clubs, in excess of 100 locations and some 28,000 children in a fun day out each year. Clubs in Thames Valley District are keen supporters, taking school and other special groups to a variety of theme parks and other attractions on the second Wednesday in June. As part of the London 2012 Legacy, clubs throughout the country engaged in Rotary WheelAppeal with WheelPower, based at the Home of the Paralympics in nearby Stoke Mandeville. Over £23K was raised in our District. The increased awareness of this life-changing work has led many Rotarians to continue their support, and in June 2015 WheelPower became an official Rotary Partner.
