LLANDUDNO ROTARY'S 97th BIRTHDAY BASH
Llandudno Rotary partied the night away at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club on Friday 22nd March 2024 at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club. Rtns. Ashok Harshey and Steve Butler deftly relieved guests of their £30 admission on arrival; Rtn. Chris Drew was Master of Ceremonies
After bi-lingual Grace from Rtn, Mark Thomson and a sumptuous 4 course meal, Rtn. President Tristan Owen gave a brief account of the Club’s current activities, which include
• help to Ukrainian refugees setting up in business
• continued collaboration with Sea Point Rotary Club, South Africa and Friendswood Rotary Club, Texas
• support for Hope Restored food bank
• funding a kids day out at Illitha pre-school in Cape Town
• environmental help at Llandudno Hospital
• a Mental Health group currently being formed
as well as numerous social activities and speakers, an ongoing weekly prize draw, taking part in the Rotary District Quiz and the development of an ever-growing Friends of Rotary section, which is open to anyone who wants to register their support Rotary but without regular attendance and financial commitment
Rtn. Mike Perry master-minded a raffle which offered nights out at each of Romeo and Someplace Else restaurants, a litre of Laphroaig Malt Whisky and a ride for a family of 6 on the Llandudno Ferris Wheel. The raffle raised £275 for Rotary charities here and overseas
A roll-call of the 68 Guests from 13 Rotary Clubs and other service organisations including Llandudno Lions and Llandudno and District Soroptimists was led by Rtn. Sarah Lesiter-Burgess
Rtn. Philip Jones presented this year’s Service Recognition Award to Carole Jones for her many years of work raising thousands of pounds from her Cafe Indulgence (Clonmel St) customers for numerous charities
District Governor Rtn. Norman Waddell spoke to the theme of “Create hope in the world” by linking the Club’s efforts to those of 46,000 other Rotary Clubs throughout the world and thereby helping countless people worldwide
The top of the bill was a tour de force of magic from Chris Williams. Chris has been a magician since the age of 4 and is the proprietor of the The Magic Bar Live in Clonmel St., Llandudno
