The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary on 25th March was Angela Cornthwaite, the new CEO of the Westmorland Agricultural Society who gave a presentation detailing the aims and activities of the charity. Founded in 1799 and becoming a registered charity in 1996, the Westmorland County Agricultural Society is dedicated to promoting the understanding and prosperity of agriculture, horticulture, conservation, forestry, rural crafts and allied industry. their focus is concentrated within a radius of 55 miles of the Society’s base at Lane Farm, Crooklands, Cumbria. The Society organises the Westmorland County Show which attracts over 30,000 visitors and with its heart firmly in agriculture, the Show’s livestock sections take the spotlight. Westmorland Show also boasts one of the largest locally produced Food Halls in the North West, as well as a spectacular Women’s Institute Marquee, Rural Crafts, Forestry Arena and over 400 trade stands plus so much more.
