Warners Hayling Island plus trip to Portsmouth Heritage Harbour

Rotary Fellowship Walking Weekend (5th to the 8th April 2024)

On Friday the 5 th of April Bexhill Rotarians and partners travelled to what could arguably be Hampshire’s premier holiday destination and best kept secret Hayling Island, which lays between the Naval Port of Portsmouth and Historic Chichester.

We arrived at The Warners Sinah Warren Hotel on the southwest tip of the island near the ferry point in the late afternoon. The evening started off with drinks in the bar followed by dinner in the restaurant and entertainment in the Pavilion Theatre.

On Saturday morning those who wanted to be gathered outside the hotel ready for the 4.6m walk up the west coast of the island and over the bridge to the mainland. We took lunch at The Ship Inn, where we were joined by Alison & Perry along with their Granddaughter.

Patrick & Amanda’s friend Brian also joined us for lunch and the return leg of the walk. President James had taken his bicycle with him and managed to add another 39 miles to his totaliser.

After dinner on Saturday evening, we enjoyed the sounds of The Pink Floyd Experience the UK’s top Pink Floyd tribute band. Their amplifiers were turned up to 11! But their sounds were excellent.(editor)

On Sunday morning many of us headed for the ferry to Portsmouth only to find that strong winds had cancelled all sailings. Instead, we travelled by car to Portsmouth where we visited the Historic Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower, and the shops. Sunday evening saw us back at the hotel for dinner and more great entertainment.

We said our goodbyes on Monday at breakfast before going our separate ways. The weekend was a great success and hopefully will be organised again for next year.
