The Annual Rotary Club Christmas Carol Concert took place on 6th December,
in St Nicholas Church. As always this was a joint effort with
Prestwick Academy pupils providing the entertainment and was very well
supported by the people of Prestwick who filled the Church. The very
talented pupils under the leadership of the Principal Teacher of Music,
Callum Johnson, played various musical instruments and also sang as a
Choir to the delight of those attending.
The
evening began with a skirl of the pipes played by Lewis McCarrell
followed by a word of welcome by Rev. Fraser Aitken. Thereafter the
audience was treated to a varied selection of music from Groups and also
solo players and singers. Notable among them were Junior Young Singer
of the Year, Poppy Dunsmuir, Senior Young Singer of the Year, Rosie
Wallbanks, and
a beautiful Mozart Sonata played by Daniel Cheung on piano. Noteable
this year was the wide variety of music which included a Flute Ensemble
and a Bach Double Concerto.
A
collection for local charities was taken and realised over £350. The
evening was finished off with a vote of thanks from Rotary President
Gregor Purdie and seasonal refreshments of tea or coffee with Christmas
pies and shortbread.
