President Roger, President-Elect Patrick, Les Sheppard, Peter Greene, Bob Gregory and Stephen King all turned up to help at the Round Table Fireworks Display of 2023.
Half of us were on duty at the footpath from the station where it reached the car park at Lake Meadows, to prevent people getting in without paying, and redirecting genuine attendees to the entrance off Lake Avenue. The others were on Car Park duty.
The first attendees arrived just after 5 p.m. and the numbers gradually grew until about 7.20 pm when they slowed to almost nothing. Almost everybody was well behaved and polite, nobody objected to the extra short walk to the Lake Avenue entrance except six youths who tried to blag their way in, without tickets, and when refused, even tried to climb over the high fence and barrier. But we stopped that.
There were only a few people who “just want to get to my grandmother’s house in Perry Street or … Queens Park .. or ....”. Our gatekeepers had strict instructions to deny them entry.
Saturday November 4 dawned and the weather was definitely not what was ordered. Heavy rain all morning, but the afternoon was dry and didn’t disrupt the Fireworks display at all.
The Park was packed and moving was difficult but not impossible, and all the 16,000 attendees were able to watch an amazing and colourful fireworks display which lasted well over 20 minutes of continuous aerial colour.
Once the display was over the final task was to ensure the crowds left the site safely. Smiling faces showed that everyone had enjoyed the event.
Congratulations to Round Table for another Brilliant Event!
