Make A Difference – New Year’s Resolution
As the end of 2023 is fast approaching why not plan and make a New Year’s Resolution to make a difference in your area?
Take part in the Bradgate Rotary Club’s first Bra Walk – “Freeze Your Bits Off” and help support your local Breast Cancer Care Unit based at Glenfield Hospital.
It only costs £10 to register your entry and hopefully you will raise sponsorship from your friends and family to really make a difference.
The 3-mile walk, which takes place at Bradgate Park (Newtown Linford entrance) on Sunday 14th January 2024. The event will start at 10.00am and finish by 1.00pm, so you can walk at your own pace, with up to 3 hours to complete the 3-mile route.

We are anticipating the weather to be very cold, after all it is the middle of winter, so we suggest wearing your decorated bras on the outside of your coats. Unless you really want to “Freeze Your Bits Off”! Wear your bra whichever way you wish. Prize for the best-embellished bra.

The Cause – Breast Cancer Care Unit at Glenfield
It has been widely reported that many women aren’t attending their regular check-ups for mammograms and hopefully this event will help alleviate any fears or concerns anyone may have, and we are sure the fundraising will contribute to more comfortable conditions for the screening.
Members of Bradgate Rotary Club were motivated to support the cause after two of its members accessed its services and reported the help that was needed to improve things. We donated funds for a specialist chair involved in the screenings and we want to help further hence the Bra Walk idea was created.
The Route
Starting just inside the main gates to the Bradgate Park entrance at Newtown Linford you will follow the tarmac covered road to the far end, Hallgates car park, near Cropston, and return. All in all it’s just over 3 miles.
On the route you will pass the dramatic rock face on your left and on your right is the area known as Little Matlock with the River Lin flowing through the pools and weirs. The area attracts an abundance of wild birds including ducks, swans, egrets and herons.
Looking to your left you will get occasional glimpses of the War Memorial and views of the iconic Old John Tower.
You will pass the ruins of the 9-day Queen, Lady Jane Grey’s ancestral home and look out for the resident peacocks. You will undoubtedly see some of the large stock of deer and the majestic stags on your way. You will pass the Deer Barn Tea Rooms, the free to enter Visitor Centre and of course toilets.
Continuing the walk you will get lovely views of Cropston Reservoir, Memorial Wood before reaching the half-way point of Hallgates car park which also has toilets available.
On your return to the finish at Newtown Linford you might like to take a short rest utilising one of the 6 wooden benches that were donated with funds from Bradgate Rotary Club.
You will be greeted at the finish with a packed goody bag, completion certificate and some well deserved refreshments supplied by the Co-op.
In the event of adverse weather conditions, we may need to postpone the walk to a more suitable day.
