On Thursday 12th October our Nostalgia Cases team presented four Nostalgia Cases to encourage members to remember, and talk about the past. There were eight cases to go out or lend to groups who would find a nostalgia session interesting and helpful. They could also be made available for individuals to rekindle past memories, talking about everyday items from their childhood and youth.
The cases contained a wonderful selection of old items to trigger memories in the minds of the people seeing them. There was an old fashioned record player playing 45s and 78s music bringing back memories. The contents also included a copy of the Daily Telegraph from 23rd November 1963 about the JFK assassination. This was the date of the first screening in black and white of Dr Who starring William Hartnell.
Other items were a sewing box which brought back memories of grans-to-be knitting beautiful shawls for babies and a gauge for sizing knitting needles that had lost there tops.
There were petrol coupons from the 70s when there were lots of strikes resulting in a three day week. An old solar powered calculator led to stories of 40 year old calculator that was still working.
There was talk of galvanised baths bringing memories of families taking turns to bathe. The poor baby got the last turn in rather murky water bringing about the saying "don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
Other items in the cases were various comics, magazines, dolls, toys books, cd's and jelly moulds to name a few. Picture shows the Nostalgia Cases team of Gregor, Edith, Chris, Kenny and Allan.
