Rotary helps Woodland Trust Plant 150 trees at Poortown - October 2023

On Friday 6th October 2023, 7 Rotarians helped volunteers from the Isle of Man Woodland Trust plant 150 native trees at a site near Poortown in the west of the island.

The trees were funded by the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann with some funding support through the Rotary International Foundation Charity.

However rather than just providing funding as a silver business partner of the Isle of Man Woodland Trust, members were keen to actually provide practical help too.
Whilst we were all tired and aching, we had good fun planting and it was a terrific achievement getting the 150 saplings into the ground, which was stony in places.
The trees were a mix of native species all grown from seed on the island including oak, hazel, wild cherry, grey willow, goat willow, sycamore, downy birch, alder, elder, wild pear, wild plum, crab apple, hawthorn and blackthorn.
