Nostalgia Cases For Community Groups

Prestwick Rotarians were encouraged by a successful old photograph project to come up with new ideas, to encourage people to remember, and talk about the past. With some support funding from Locality Planning Partnership - Prestwick and Villages , we hit on the idea of nostalgia cases. These are suitcases from the past filled with small items, which promote discussion, laughter and memory jogging. Records, books, magazines, toys, kitchen utensils, sports equipment , work tools, games are all included. Six nostalgia case have been made up, and we are presently trying out one or two, to gauge which objects promote the most discussion. Symington Friendship group members were excellent guinea pigs, and came up with very good suggestions.

We are currently drawing up a list of local groups who would find a nostalgia session interesting, and helpful. The cases could also be made available for individuals to rekindle past memories, talking about everyday items from their childhood and youth. We are still on the look-out for items of interest to put in the cases. Also if you are a social group member who would like a case nostalgia group session, or if you have items to donate, please get in touch with Prestwick Rotary Club through social media, or phone Mike Kelly 01563 830147, email mkelly.builddesign@btinternet.com.
