The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary on 18th September was auctioneer Bill Nelson from 1818 Auctioneers who gave a light-hearted talk on the history of the auction house. Originally sited at the old Auction Mart in Kendal it was transferred over 10 years ago to the new purpose-built building at Junction 36. That year it had 16 sales a year which has now grown to 190 sales per year and has a turnover of £1.7 million and not only has general sales but now has sales for fine art, paintings, pictures and specialized items. With further investments, new extensions to the building have been added and the business goes from strength to strength.
