Alloway Rotarian Bill Grant gave us a humorous talk on his 31 year career as a fireman. He related many amusing anecdotes about his colourful time in the Fire Service covering the Strathclyde and South West Area. These included the story about a cat up a tree, a cat up the lum, stacking up a firemans pole and wonderful advice not to use a lift in a fire.

He talked about the many fires he attended including fires a the Carlton Hotel, Ayr Mercure Hotel and the Railway Hotel Ayr. He was later sent to cover the Argyle area which covered lots of fire station including Gigha and Mull to name a few. There were many great tales and he clearly enjoyed an exciting and interesting career. He said it was a wonderful jouney and a privelege to serve the public.
