A Warm Boot, Craft and Produce Fair

The forecast was for a hot dry sunny day, and so large numbers of stallholders arrived at Martello Fields in the hope that there would also be large numbers of inquisitive bargain hunters.

The number of stallholders permitted into the Martello Field, 112, was the second highest, only being exceeded by the record 117 stalls in July last year.  As the field was filled with hopeful sellers, it is understood that some late arrivals had to be refused entry.  The field was so full that to accommodate as many as possible, the adjacent East Field was made available for car parking.

In addition to the normal four rows of vehicles, stallholders were also set up around the perimeter.at the western end of the field in three impromptu rows where the field widens near the southwest corner.  A number of stallholders asked for a discount because they did not have a full sized marked out pitch.  This was resisted as it was pointed out that they were still able to sell, Seaford Rotary did not make any profit and all income is donated to good causes.  The full amount was collected from each stallholder.

It was good to see some new stallholders, in particular some from Peacehaven who are at the Meridian Centre on Saturday mornings.

As is usual, there were some less common items for sale.  These included a set of three stringed clown puppets, a set of eight ceramic meerkats, and a surfeit of large staffed toys.  One happy member of the public was seen carrying away a bicycle frame, no handle or saddle and a pair of wheels without tyres.

One stall holder was selling over 20 binoculars, which he said had all been left behind by members of a bird watching club in the West Midlands, some were virtually brand new!

As a result of the Fair over £1200 was raised which will be used to support local charitable and international Rotary projects.
