A host of people and orgnisations came together to run a free afternoon picnic for displaced persons

The motley crew of Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead and Leatherhead Rotary Clubs with Jo Sherring from the Refugee Network posing before the arrival of the guests. It was a great occasion with entertainers and even kite flying at 300 feet. The picnic was held at Ashtead Football club and many thanks to them.

“The picnic was such fun.  There were so many fun things to do and we loved the entertainment and ice creams” said a 21 year old picnic goer and a Ukrainian guest added “ Being able to come together with a group of other Ukrainians to enjoy food and drinks whilst the children were being entertained made for such a special day.  It reminded me of being at home and the type of gatherings we would have there.  Thank you for such a lovely day”.

Jo Sherring thanked the Rotary clubs of Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead and Leatherhead for arranging the picnic   She said "It was so lovely to see families come together for a relaxing day with lots of fun for the children.  The Punch and Judy show was a highlight and the children loved taking part in some of the other activities such as rock decorating, card making and getting glitter tattoos.    It made all families feel like they were welcome in our community and was so good to see everyone forget their worries and just enjoy themselves for a few hours in the sun.
