When Knighton Rotary President Angela Ellis read about lonely older people in the communities we serve, she was determined to do something about it. As President Angela said, “It is my ambition this year to start a project in Knighton to help combat loneliness”.
To this end she proposed a monthly “Tea and Natter” event to be held at the St Edwards Church Hall, Church Street Knighton starting on Tuesday September 5th between 2 and 4 pm. Angela added “This event will be monthly to start with, but hopefully will increase in frequency as the demand increases.”
This “Tea and Natter” event will be aimed at anyone who is experiencing loneliness and will give the opportunity to talk (natter) to others whilst enjoying a cuppa and some cake. The event will be totally free of charge, funded by our Knighton Rotary Club.
There were free magazines to read there or take home. Angela added “We are hoping to hold the occasional bingo session, a quiz, maybe sing-o-longs. Or indeed anything that may prompt discussion between our participants. Together we can all contribute, albeit in a small way, to combat loneliness within our community.”
