In view of the many wet days we have been having, we were fortunate to have a dry, mild day, with only the briefest of light showers, so conditions would have been perfect but for the strong winds. Despite that, the runners made very good time. First home was Tim Richardson from Harrogate Harriers in 59min.31sec, followed by Brian Pennington of Howgill Harriers in 60.12, and Brian Potts of Elvet Striders in 60.49.
First Lady home, and 7th overall was Betty Bergstrand from Great Ayton, but Pudsey & Bramley AC in 62.36.Second Lady was Jess Young of Swaledale Road Runners in 71.12. and Third was Helen Burrell, a Leyburn resident and member of Swaledaile Roadrunners in 71.25.
I was delighted to see Swaledale Roadrunners win the Ladies Team event. They helped us plan the route some 17years ago, and continue to help with finishing times etc.
As usual, a big thank you to volunteers from Swaledale Road Runners who managed the finish and time-keeping in a very professional way, as usual- something we Rotarians could not have done ourselves.
Thanks also to Tom Orde-Powlett, Richard Spensley & Son, and Stewart Raw for use of their land. Also, Alec Rycroft, of Leyburn Walking Shop, who again donated the prizes. Tom also ran the race with two of his children!more Prizes given out
