On Saturday 22nd April 2023 Spirit Operations' Lee Hooper and Lorna Hankey had the pleasure of being invited to the Oswestry Annual Civic Dinner by Mayor Jay Moore.

At the event, they received the Mayor's "Outstanding Achievement" Award for their involvement with Oswestry Balloon Carnival, volunteering their time and raising funds for Nightingale House Hospice for over 6 years.

This award was also a massive Thank You to the pilots for attending this event over the years, the crew volunteers from Evolution Gym Oswestry and not to mention the rest of the wonderful Spirit Friends and Family.

Today we will hear more about Lorna's involvement with last weekend's Oswestry Balloon Carnival which last year raised an amazing £34,000 for Nightingale House in 2022.

Lorna Hankey from Spirit Operations said: “We were excited to be involved with the Oswestry Balloon Carnival and to be able to support the town and Nightingale House Hospice for another year with hot air balloon entertainment.”

The hospice has been looking at other ways to keep its finances afloat. Most of its running costs are met through fundraising and other channels of income generation that includes its on-site café and charity shops that make a significant contribution towards maintaining services for those with life-limiting illnesses within palliative care.

"Our services are completely free-of-charge, to patients and their families across our catchment area stretching from Wrexham, Flintshire and East Denbighshire to Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch." Nightingale House relationship manager Amanda Kinsey said.

Nightingale House hospice services are available to everyone in its catchment area living with a life-limiting illness.

It costs £4,041,617 each year to run Nightingale House, which is £336,801 per month, £77,723 per week or £11,073 per day.
