Kate Sangster

Kate Sangster treated The Rotary Club of Prestwick to an excellent talk about her work with Ukrainian Refugees recently. Its over a year since the refugees came from the Edinburgh hub to Ayrshire where they were sent to local hubs at the Mercure Ayr  Hotel or Adamton Country House Hotel. These have been running for 9 months. Some then went to local Ayrshire hosts who have opened their doors to welcome them, others went to Church manses and holiday lets throughout Ayrshire.

 Many refugees wanted to stay in Scotland to use their skills but are coming up against bureaucracy.They work in local factories and shops but some have since moved to England or to large cities to get better jobs.

 Kate thanked Prestwick Rotary for our help and donations in the last year. It was a very revealing talk about how the refugees are treated and the path they tread to a safer better life.
