Last month we reported that our RotaKids clubs at Buttsbury Junior School and at Quilters Junior School had both won a Presidential Citation from the International Director of Rotary International, Nicki Scott, for their amazing community efforts. To qualify, they needed to carry out at least three of eight specified community activities, all of which must be started and finished between 1st July 2022 and 1st May 2023.
We are delighted to report that both Buttsbury and Quilters Junior School RotaKids clubs achieved seven of the eight challenges, only missing out on a Polio eradication task.
On June 8 District Governor Jed Brooks went along to Buttsbury Junior School to present the officers of the club and the RotaKids as a whole, with their Citation. DG Jed was accompanied by our President, Michael Ginn, President-Elect Roger Kettle, Treasurer Les Sheppard, and club photographer Peter Greene.
As always we were totally impressed by the behaviour of the school children as approximately 500 primary school children filed into the hall for a special assembly in honour of the RotaKids’ achievement, and sat down in neat rows.
Headteacher Ann Robinson started the proceedings by introducing DG Jed, President Michael and our other members, and handed over to the DG.
Jed congratulated the RotaKids for their very special achievement in being one of only two RotaKids’ clubs in the whole District to be awarded the Presidential Citation, a recognition of their achievements over the year. Jed remarked that it was a pleasure to honour the RotaKids in front of so many smiling faces, and presented the President of the RotaKids with the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Presidential Citation and letter of appreciation.
Their award gave him great hope for the future, and he expressed the hope that this was not the end of their “Rotary” life and that in future years we will see them in Interact, Rotaract and Rotary clubs, continuing their dedication to service.
President Michael then added a few more words of congratulations for their achievement, He said that he joined Rotary to serve his community and for the fellowship and fun in working with other club members. He encouraged the RotaKids to continue their Rotary journey, and above all, to make sure they had fun while doing so.
The Officers and visitors then left the Assembly for the customary photographs in the school grounds.
We congratulate them all for their achievement.
