Student nurse Louisa Hunter treated Prestwick Rotary to a talk on her recent trip to Sri Lanka, where she worked as a medical volunteer, and English teacher.
We part-funded her travel, with a donation of £200, for which she was very grateful. Louise stayed mainly in Ambalangoda, where she assisted in both private and public hospitals, but she travelled to other centres, including Columbo. Louisa found that children, and their parents, were very keen to learn English, and
taught this briefly in Sunday schools.
Louisa is committed to making a difference to peoples lives, and presented her talk as a very human story, about overcoming deprivation, and poverty.
Richie Cameron wished Louisa every success, on behalf of us all, in his vote of thanks, for what he described as a 'stunning' talk.
