RotaKids is Rotary’s Program to help local young people aged between 7 and 11 years old learn new skills and make a difference in their community, and learn about good citizenship.
Our two RotaKids clubs are based around the School Councils of their Primary Schools ensuring that not only do they get experience in decision-making for their school, but also, helping the wider community at large. Not only do they work on their community-based projects, but we ensure they are involved in our club activities and have become a welcome and vital part of our stands at the town’s Christmas Market and Summerfest.
How does a RotaKids club make a difference? All RotaKids clubs in Great Britain and Ireland are given eight annual challenges:
• Meet at least six times in the Rotary Year.
• Participate in at least one activity that promotes international understanding.
• Participate in a school or community fundraiser or project.
• Take part in a discussion group or write an essay which shows an appreciation of the RotaKids pledge or Peaceful actions within your community.
• 50% of RotaKids members take part in a Rotary Great Britain & Ireland youth activity such as Young Writer, Young Artist, Young Filmmaker, Young Photographer or another achievement within your school or community.
• Participate in a fundraiser or campaign to raise awareness to support polio eradication.
• RotaKids make a presentation to their peers demonstrating what they have undertaken.
• Participate in at least one activity which demonstrates environmental awareness e.g. clearing rubbish from a beach/area of ground, planting trees, etc.
Both of our two RotaKids clubs in Billericay have been recognised with a Presidential Citation from the International Director of Rotary International, Nicki Scott, for their amazing community efforts.
To qualify, both RotaKids clubs needed to carry out at least three of the eight activities listed above, all of which must be started and finished between 1st July 2022 and 1st May 2023. We are delighted to report that both Buttsbury and quilters junior School RotaKids clubs achieved seven of the eight challenges, only missing out on a Polio eradication task.
We congratulate them all and look forward to the presentation of the certificates in June.
