The Rt Hon Tom Tugendhat MBE VR, MP for Tonbridge & Malling, became an Honorary Member of Tonbridge Rotary Club at a meeting on 31st March.  Accompanied by Cllr Matt Boughton, Leader of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council and a Friend of the Club, Mr Tugendhat thanked Rotarians for their offer of honorary membership and spoke about his involvement with local issues and the challenges facing him in his role as Security Minister.  Among the guests and Rotarians present were Carol Vizzard, Assistant District Governor Elect, and Cllrs Vivian Branson and Janet Sergison, both members of Tonbridge & Malling BC and Friends of Tonbridge Rotary Club.

The Club was pleased to receive a visit from the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Cllr Sue Bell, and her husband Dave.  Cllr Bell spoke entertainingly about her busy schedule and the pleasure that she has gained from meeting a wide range of people.  She was generous in her praise for Rotary’s work in helping the community, and members look forward to seeing her and her husband at the Club’s Charity Quiz on 27th May.

Nexus School opened a pop up café on 23rd March which serves hot drinks, cakes and scones to the public on Thursdays from 13.00-14.30 at the United Reform Church in Tonbridge High street.  Present was Tonbridge Rotary Club’s Vice President Julian Brandling-Harris (pictured with a Nexus student). Seasonal arts and crafts are to be sold in the café, and working there will provide an opportunity for Nexus students to interact with the community in a relaxed environment.
